Gun Control In Modern Europe

In Europe, economic, communication,

and cultural resources are more under the control of the government or traditional aristocracies than in the United States. Accordingly, unlike Americans who expect to have a greater degree of control over their private security, Europeans are more likely to expect their security to be allocated by the government.

When you look at history, gun control in the modern sense that we understand it only begins to take effect after the First World War – at the same time that the governments of recuperating nations become concerned with revolutions like the one that occurred in Russia.

  • Switzerland and the reason for its unique gun culture.
  • Germany and the collapse of the Soviet Union.
  • Ireland and the Firearm Custody Order of 1972.
  • England is so restrictive that most police officers are unarmed.

We will view different countries

and look at their history of gun control, which is very often closely tied into their culture and see how events in their past have shaped their current regulations and policies.

We will also view evidence to see if there is a pattern of governments who banned guns before they began crack downs on political dissident groups and on ethnic minorities.
